The idea first began in August 2007, when Wanda Summers along with two other team members attempted to run for 13 hours non stop up and down Praa Sands Beach in Cornwall.
Wanda Summers and Mark Finch completed the challenge, whilst Michael McClary managed to complete it half way through, when unfortunately, an injury meant having to withdraw. Partly done as a training run for the Marathon Des Sables, it was also held as an event to raise money for Shelterbox.

This year, on 26th August, Bank Holiday Weekend, Wanda Summers, not satisfied with running for only 13 hours non stop on the sand, (once in 2007, and then again running 13 hours non stop last year, less than 3 years after breaking her back) will be running for 24 hours non stop on Praa Sands Beach to raise money for the charity Shelterbox.
However, it won't just be Wanda running, for the duration of 24 hours, there will be a chance for YOU to enter and run as many laps as you can, or choose to run one lap as FAST as you can. Prizes will be given for the fastest lap and most laps and entries will be divided into age categories.
*****NEW FOR THIS YEAR!***** There will also be a prize for the slowest lap!!!!

A little more about the original 13 hour non-stop run ...
The 13 hour non-stop run originated as a training run for Wanda Summers, Mark Finch and Michael McClary after entering the Marathon Des Sables.
The Marathon Des Sables is nicknamed
as the toughest footrace on earth, and is a 150 mile self sufficient run over 6 days, through the Sahara desert.
The reason why it was 13 hours, was because the longest stage in the Marathon Des Sables is about 50 miles, and 13 hours was a rough guess as to how long it might take.
It was decided that the run should raise money for Shelterbox, as Shelterbox originated
locally, and was a concept that all three hugely admired.
Shelterbox provides a box containing a tent that sleeps 8-10 people, and other items for
self sufficiency, to those who have lost their homes through natural disaster.
Wanda Summers and Mark Finch completed the 13 hour run, and
Michael McClary managed most of it, but had to stop after sustaining an injury.
All three completed the Marathon Des Sables in 2008.
2008 was also the year Wanda broke her back.
The MDS (Marathon Des Sables) was in May 2008 and Wanda Summers seriously broke her back in December 2008. She was told there was a chance she may never walk again.
In July 2011, Wanda heard about a local lady named Malina Bowman, who was fighting for her life with
cancer. Wanda never met Malina, but impulsively decided to resurrect the 13 hour run, and this time raise the money for Malina, who was seeking treatment abroad and cost huge amounts of money.
Wanda managed to raise over £800 from the 13 hour run for Malina Bowman and Malina's family. Sadly, Malina died this year.
This year, Wanda has decided to run for 24 hours, and is looking forward to it being a bigger and better event than ever before, raising loads of money for Shelterbox.
Wanda is hoping that runners from all over will join in, and also holiday makers who end up having their sunbathing disrupted by the constant trampling past their towels, but who will hopefully see the fun side and worthy side of this run, and join in too!
